Volunteer Position Description:

We are looking for support for both our Drop In and Overnight service for youth experiencing homelessness.

Drop In volunteer hours run between 8:30 PM – 12:00 AM Friday and Sunday Nights and 9:30 PM – 12:00 AM Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday Nights. The first thirty minutes is collaboratively spent setting up. Once the drop in opens, volunteers participate in a variety of tasks such as serving hot meals, providing an active listening ear, sorting and distributing clothing, doing dishes and engaging with the youth in attendance. We offer a relatively low key environment with engaging activities readily available. These include board and card games, movie nights, arts and crafts and occasional special theme nights. A strong emphasis is on building healthy relationships. Help is also provided in the form of low key mental health support, conflict management and pastoral care with informal referrals being made to deeper community support where indicated. The drop-in is primarily hosted by volunteers under the guidance of a staff supervisor.

Overnights volunteer hours run from 11:30 PM – 9:30 AM Friday, Saturday 11:30 PM – 8:30 AM, Sunday 11:30 PM – 9:00 AM, Monday Nights 11:30 PM – 9:00 AM and Tuesday Nights from 11:30 PM – 9:00 AM. Around 11:30 PM staff and volunteers begin to transition the Drop In to the Shelter portion by encouraging youth to set up their beds and aid in taking down drop in activities and putting away food. We offer a relatively low key environment with a strong emphasis on building healthy relationships. Help is also provided in the form of low key mental health support, conflict management and pastoral care with informal referrals being made to deeper community support where indicated.
