Volunteer Position Description: Odyssey Theatre is Ottawa’s professional, premier open-air theatre. For 32 years, we have attracted thousands each summer to our award-winning Theatre Under the Stars along the Rideau River in beautiful Strathcona Park.

As a non-profit charity, Odyssey is looking for talented and enthusiastic people with a background in marketing and communications to help us grow audiences and increase community awareness of the Theatre’s award-winning work.

Working as part of a creative and collaborative Marketing Group you will work with the Chair of our Marketing Group, other volunteers and a staff person to develop and implement exciting new marketing and communications strategies for the Theatre.

We are looking for volunteers with an interest or experience in marketing, communications, social media, writing, public relations, general promotion or advertising that can help us to:

  • Develop and implement marketing plans and strategies for Odyssey and our upcoming 33rd season of outdoor theatre;
  • Develop innovative new digital marketing initiatives to grow Odyssey’s on-line presence;
  • Improve our web site;
  • Develop strategies and create press materials to attract both traditional and new media coverage of the Theatre;
  • Develop creative advertising and promotional materials for this summer’s production;
  • Secure co-promotional partnerships with other organizations to build and reach new audiences;
  • Help write and edit marketing content, including promotional materials, web and social media content and media pitches;
  • Develop strategies to use data analytics to better target and improve the effectiveness of our marketing initiatives; and,
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our marketing initiatives and develop future marketing plans.

Volunteer Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Marketing and communications background
