Education Moment: What is 7-1-7?

7 weeks of learning with instructor A; 1 week for mid-term break; 7 Weeks of learning with Instructor BDo any of your courses change instructors after the mid-term break? If so, this format is called a 7-1-7 course.

What do 7-1-7 courses look like?

  • From week 1 to week 7, you have one instructor teaching you the front end of the course.
  • You enjoy the mid-term break
  • From week 9-15, you have a different instructor who teaches the remaining part of the course.

Which programs have 7-1-7 courses?

  • Almost all programs within the college include this format for some of their course.
  • They tend to be more frequent in areas where there is a theory and lab component as part of their course.

How do Student Course Feedback Surveys work for 7-1-7 courses?

  • For the First 7-week portion:
    • During week 6 we will launch the student course feedback survey for the first portion of your 7-1-7 course.
    • Within your student survey portal, the survey will be identified with the first instructors name and that the survey is for the weeks 1-7 of the course. This will look like this:
Screen Capture of Student College Survey Portal, listing available surveys.
    • The survey for the first half of the course will remain open until the end of term but we encourage you to complete it while it’s fresh in your mind. Responses to this survey will not be available to the instructor until after grades due date.
  • For the Last 7-week portion:
    • During week 12, student course feedback survey for the last portion of your 7-1-7 course (and all other courses) will be launched.
    • Within your student survey portal, the survey will be identified with the second instructors name and that the survey is for the weeks 9-15 of the course. This will look like this:
Screen Capture of Student College Survey Portal, listing available surveys.
    • The survey for the last portion of the course will remain open until the end of term.

As always, your instructor, program chair, and dean will not have access to your responses until after the grades are released in ACSIS (find out when that is here). Your responses are always anonymous and confidential, as per our privacy policy.

Responses are presented only in aggregate. This means that Instructors, Chairs, and Deans only see an overall score of all ratings which is not connected to this list of responses from your submissions.
