What is the Dual Credit Program?

The Dual Credit program helps young people discover what educational or career pathway is right for them and helps them get closer to the goal of graduating high school. The program is funded by the Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities through the School|College|Work Initiative (SCWI) and supports the Learning to 18 mandate.

Faculty, along with their high school teacher counterparts, play a key role in the success of Dual Credits. We have designed this web page to help navigate the logistics of the program so they don’t get in the way of your classroom delivery.

The links below will direct you to further background information, outlines some of the supports available to you and Dual Credit students, reviews various policies/procedures/logistics and clarifies the release of academic information between relevant parties. Please take some time to review this information, keeping it handy for reference.

Who are the Dual Credit Support Teachers?

The Dual Credit Teacher are high school teachers employed by a partner district school board. Their role is to support the Dual Credit students and facilitate communication about academic progress with the home high school and parents/guardian. Each Dual Credit student has to sign a consent form allowing the College Professors to communicate with the Dual Credit Teacher as well as with the staff from the Office of Academic Partnerships. If you are not sure who the DC Support Teacher is for any particular student, please contact dualcredit@algonquincollege.com

They have all been assigned a Algonquin College Contractor IT Info, meaning you are able to add them to your Brightspace so they can better assist students and to streamline your communication to them, as they will know as soon as the students information about their academic progress.
