Eligibility – Dual Credit

Dual Credit Program

Eligibility for Dual Credit Program

All grade 11 and 12 students attending a publicly funded Ontario Secondary School are eligible to participate in the Dual Credit program. Many are concurrently enrolled in a cooperative education program as a way to strengthen the link between work and college experience. Students should meet with their high school Guidance Counsellor, Co-operative Education teacher, or other assigned high school Dual Credit lead to discuss eligibility. A staff member from a publicly funded Ontario Secondary School must submit an application on behalf of a student.

Selection Criteria

Integrated and Congregated Dual Credit seats are in high demand at Algonquin College and, as such, priority is given to serving the primary target group (disengaged and not meeting
their full academic potential, but who have shown evidence of the potential to succeed in college or an apprenticeship;) as outlined in the Ministry of Education Policy Document “Dual Credit Programs: Policy and Program Requirements” (pg. 29-31).

As a standard of practice, supported by DSB partners, applications received during the equal consideration period, are categorized into priority levels. Applicants will be admitted in progressive sequence until all allocated seats have been assigned. Any unassigned seats will be made available, after the equal consideration application period, to students of any priority level on a first come, first serve basis.

To improve transparency of this process, a selection criteria rubric has been developed for use at all three Ontario campuses of Algonquin College.
