Dual Credit Program (Integrated & Congregated) Seat Allocations & Selection Criteria
Integrated & Congregated Seat Allocations
Integrated seats are negotiated as a block which are then distributed across a variety of course offerings. This negotiating occurs during the annual RFP process. As a college we are not guaranteed a certain number of integrated seats each year. Academic Partnerships works with Academic Chairs and Deans across the Ontario campuses: Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth to ensure integrated courses represent a variety of vocational pathways. Due to the restrictive number of available seats, Academic Partnerships use a selection criteria rubric (see below).
Congregated seats are negotiated between the District School Board and Academic Partnerships in consultation with campus partners from Pembroke and Perth. As a college we are not guaranteed a certain number of seats or number of congregated opportunities in each funding year. Due to the restrictive number of available seats, Academic Partnerships use a selection criteria rubric (see below).
There are no predetermined seat allocations by District School Board for integrated or congregated courses unless where negotiated in the RFP process.
Selection Criteria
Integrated and Congregated seats are in high demand at Algonquin College campuses and as such priority is given to serving the primary group (disengaged, underachieving, potential to succeed) as outlined in the Ministry of Education Policy Document “Dual Credit Programs: Policy and Program Requirements” (pg. 24). To this end, where a Dual Credit course has been funded as “Primary” no more than 30% of the registration will be made up of secondary group “SHSM students.” Conversely, where the course has been funded SHSM more than 60% of the registrations must be students registered in the appropriate SHSM.
As a standard of practice, supported by DSB partners, Algonquin College will continue to sort equal consideration applications into the primary group using five admission levels (1-5). Applicants will be admitted in progressive sequence until all allocated seats have been assigned. Any unassigned seats will be made available, after equal consideration, to any student of any admission level on a first come, first serve bases.
To improve transparency of this process a selection criteria rubric has been developed for use at all three Ontario campuses of Algonquin College.
Effective, May 2016 the following selection rubric will be used:
