SSC0094 – Youth in the Justice System

What is this course all about?

Youth often face challenges as they prepare for and transition into adulthood. These challenges often transform into problems with the legal system. Students develop an understanding of historical and contemporary issues pertaining to youth in conflict with the law by examining at-risk youth, incarcerated youth and youth who are reintegrated into society. Students become familiar with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Child and Family Services Act, the Youth Court process, facilities and services for youth in the justice system and the role of the community in supporting these youth.
