Project Types

We are always interested in developing new research projects that provide solutions to industry or community problems. If you are interested in submitting an idea for an applied research project, please fill out the project application form.

In-Class Projects
Student teams work on In-Class Projects (ICP) as part of their coursework. Projects must adhere to course schedules and students typically work 10 – 15 hours per week on the project. Company clients contribute cash ($500/semester) and ‘in-kind’ (generally face-time of company representatives). Additional funding for equipment and materials may be available through the Office of Applied Research (AR).

Stand-Alone Projects
Stand-alone projects are those where Algonquin student and faculty work with industry clients outside of the regular course schedule (typically during the summer). Algonquin personnel are paid salary from direct project funds. Funding support for stand-alone projects is provided through on-going College grants administered by Applied Research office or by project-specific federal or provincial grants for applied research. Total funding support for these projects is typically in the range of $25,000 – $50,000, depending on the scope of the project. Company clients contribute 25% cash, compared to funding support as well as 75% in-kind.
