This marketing degree teaches and applies theory in real-world contexts. In the first two years, you develop core business knowledge such as finance, economics, human resources, law and operations and project management. You will develop a thorough understanding of how a business works, and how marketing integrates with various business units to strengthen the company as a whole. Building on this foundation, you develop and apply marketing strategies and tactics to make data-informed recommendations for marketing plans. Contemporary and emerging technologies are evaluated and utilized, including social media, mobile apps and websites, to build brands in local and global markets. Marketing involves understanding consumers' needs and wants and then designing a marketing program that interacts with customers, building engagement and even loyalty. Marketers can craft messaging to target audiences and track their responsiveness, which allows them to strategically discover untapped markets and capitalize upon them.

Courses

Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely online, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with virtual learning activities. Admissions Requirements

All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility requirements.

College Eligibility

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Mature students are applicants who have not achieved the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or its equivalent and who are at least 19 years of age on or before the commencement of the program in which they intend to enroll. Mature students applying for Degree programs satisfy College Eligibility by having demonstrated academic abilities equivalent to those of Ontario high school graduates, verified by successful completion of at least one full-time term at the post-secondary level (minimum five courses taken concurrently in an academic program of study).

  • Six Grade 12 University (U) or university/college (M) courses with a minimum 65% average including:
    • One Grade 12 U English course, with a minimum of 60%

Algonquin College has been granted consent by the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security to offer this applied degree for a seven-year term starting June 15, 2022. The College shall ensure that all students admitted to the above-named program during the period of consent have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable timeframe.

CO-OP INFORMATION
Co-operative education (Co-op) provides students with the opportunity to integrate classroom learning with real-world experience through paid, program-related work terms.Two academic terms before their first co-op work term, students must actively participate in and complete a self-directed co-op preparation course, including required readiness activities and workshops.

Students are responsible for conducting a guided, self-directed job search and securing approved, paid co-op employment related to their program of study. Co-op students compete for positions alongside students from Algonquin College and other Canadian and international colleges and universities. While Algonquin College's Co-op Career Centre supports students by developing co-op opportunities and providing guidance throughout the process, employment is not guaranteed.Co-op work opportunities may require students to relocate. All costs associated with participation-including travel, accommodation, work permits, visa applications, and other related expenses-are the responsibility of the student.

Co-op work terms are typically 14 weeks in duration and are completed during academic terms when students are not enrolled in classes. For details about the number and timing of co-op work terms in your program, please refer to the Courses tab on your program's webpage.

Successful completion of all required co-op work terms listed on the program page is mandatory for graduation. Students are expected to remain on schedule and participate in co-op work terms as planned. Dr. Mark Dottori went on to a Mitacs postdoctoral research fellowship and a McCall MacBain teaching and leadership postdoctoral fellowship at McMaster University after receiving his PhD in Sport Business Management from the University of Ottawa. He has also earned an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a graduate certificate in Public Relations Management from Royal Roads University, a certificate in digital analytics from Algonquin College, and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Sport Administration from Laurentian University.

Mark is currently completing an executive certificate in management and leadership focusing on analytics from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. Mark has authored more than seven book chapters and has his research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Sport Communication, Sport & Communication, Sport Business Management- an International Journal, the Journal of Professional Communication, and the International Journal of Multiple Research Approaches. He has also presented his research at many international conferences.

His industry experience includes marketing and communication positions with organizations such as the Canadian Paralympic Committee, Callaway Golf, the Toronto Raptors, Canada Basketball, and the Canadian Football League.

Mark teaches marketing, business analytics, and digital media management within the School of Business and the Sport Business Management Program at the college. Mark has also taught at McMaster University, The University of Ottawa, Laurentian University, and was a visiting guest lecturer at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences.

Erika is a Professor in Human Resources and is the School of Business Faculty Coop Coordinator.

Erika has over 11 years of teaching experience and over 8 years Coop experience at Algonquin College.

Her industry experience has been as a Human Resources Generalist for both public sector organizations and private enterprises.

Erika holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa with a double major in Human Resources Management and Marketing.

Erika enjoys guiding and supporting students through their academic journey to develop skills which will enable their success for their chosen career.

When she is not teaching Erika enjoys travelling and participating in a wide variety of sports.
