Level Up Your Learning – Preparing for the Spring Semester

The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) is offering a series of workshops during the week before the Spring 2024 term to help you prepare for your studies. Whether you are starting your first college program or returning to your final semester, any Algonquin student with a disability can take advantage of these learning opportunities. Each webinar will touch on a different topic, with a focus on learning about ways to enhance your academic skills.

This introduction to CAL services offers a brief overview of the services you may access through the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) at Algonquin College. 

Learning Strategies – Top Tips for College

Tuesday, April 30 • 1pm – 2pm (1 hour)

Discover how learning strategies can help your academic success! In this session, you will understand what learning strategies are and receive tips on how to be a more effective learner in the college environment. The focus will be on time management, but other strategies related to studying, prioritizing, and connecting with others will also be shared. 

Assistive Technology at AC

Wednesday, May 1 • 10am – 11am (1 hour)

Do you want to learn how to use technology to enhance your learning? Join one of CAL’s Assistive Technologists to find out about tools that can help you succeed. This session will introduce tools to help you take notes during online lectures, to stay focused while reading, to get your ideas down in writing and more! 

Taking Notes: Tips and Tools

Wednesday, May 1 • 2pm – 3pm (1 hour)

It can be challenging to listen to your professors while also writing class notes…and how should you be taking notes, anyway? Attend this workshop to learn more about different note-taking systems and learn which one best fits your courses and your own learning style. You will also be introduced to technologies that can support you in taking effective notes. 

Habit Hacks for College and Beyond!

Thursday, May 2 • 10am – 11am (1 hour)

Whether you are concerned about time management, organization, studying, or finding balance in your life, being a truly effective student really comes down to the habits that you cultivate every day.  Learn about the basics of habit formation, including tips for making new habits easy and manageable by using the “Four Laws of Behavior Change.”  Discover how these laws can be used to both build positive habits and eliminate negative ones.  By the end of the session, participants will have the chance to create an “ABC Recipe Card” and commit to a new habit for the semester.  Who knows?  Maybe this habit will change your academic life! 

Stress Management

Thursday, May 2 • 1pm – 2pm (1 hour)

Balancing your course load and personal commitments can be a stressful experience for many college students. In this workshop, students will learn more about recognizing signs of stress and creating strategies to help manage stress in the academic environment.  

Time Management – Rock the Clock

Friday, May 3 • 10:00am-11:00am (1 hour)

Managing your time and keeping on top of your work are the keys to success as a college student. This workshop will introduce you to some simple techniques to plan your time more effectively. A Learning Strategist will teach you how to build an “Ideal Weekly Schedule” and a “Semester Plan,” and you will also learn about task lists and prioritization. 

All sessions will be delivered virtually.

Note that if you choose to turn on your webcam during the Zoom session, your video will be visible to other workshop participants.
