ACR Program Mapping FAQs

What is the Mapping Revision Function in COMMS?

The mapping function allows you to propose modifications to existing VLO (or PLO) and EES maps as a result of Program of Study changes made during the ACR cycle. COMMS allows for the entry and capturing all of the mapping revisions performed by Program or Department Coordinators. Draft mapping changes are reviewed in COMMS by Curriculum Consultants in Academic Development before being activated. Once activated and COMMS rolls over for the next academic year, the revised mapping will appear in course outlines in preparation for final course outline submission.

How do I know if I need to make mapping revisions?

Program maps only need to be reviewed and revised if the curriculum of the program has changed in specific ways, such as: courses moving levels, the addition or removal of courses, or if there has been an identification that the emphasis of a course has changed with respect to the achievement of the learning outcomes. Minor updates to courses annually should not require mapping revisions.

What if I have no mapping revisions?

The program coordinator can communicate that faculty can start reviewing, updating, or creating their course outlines in COMMS. Once course outlines begin to be submitted for review, the status of the mapping switches to ‘completed’.

How to Get Help with Mapping Revisions

When you have questions about the mapping revision process or functionality in COMMS, please contact the COMMS administrator (email mal@algonquincollege.com). Please ensure that you identify how to contact you and provide a brief description of the issue that you are experiencing. It is always helpful if you include screen shot(s) of an issue, if relevant.

When Should Faculty Start Updating Course Outlines?
