I am an nurse from outside of Canada. How do I become a nurse in Ontario?

The first step in becoming a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario is to contact the regulatory body for nursing in Ontario, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), and ask for a registration package. Call 1-800 -387-5526 or visit the CNO website.

Once the CNO receives your registration information and supporting documents from your home country, they will assess all this information and decide how you should proceed with the registration process. This can take a period of time. Please feel free to contact our Program Coordinator before, during or after you have contacted the CNO for support and advice on activities to assist you in returning to your nursing career .

Once you have received your letter of assessment, please contact the Coordinator of the Orientation to Nursing in Ontario Program for assistance on how to create your individualized plan for registration in Ontario.
