Colin Bonang Receives President’s Star

Algonquin College’s long-serving Director of Risk Management, Colin Bonang, was presented with the President’s Star Award on December 7, as he prepares to retire from his position.

Bonang and his team have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of Algonquin College’s employees and learners before and especially during the pandemic. He has been responsible for operational security, occupational health and safety, emergency and risk management, corporate insurance, and legal affairs.

Algonquin College President and CEO, Claude Brulé, presented the award – citing Bonang’s more than three decades of experience in institutional and corporate security management for post-secondary and healthcare institutions. His dynamic leadership, deep knowledge, and strategic guidance on matters of security and safety – coupled with his calm presence – have been relied upon daily.

The President’s Star Award is presented to employees who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their role within the College community; regularly and consistently demonstrate outstanding service; and/or perform acts of significant merit that model our shared commitment to student success and the College’s values of Caring, Learning, Integrity, and Respect.

Congratulations Colin!

New Employee Award Recognizes Inclusion and Diversity Champions

Nominations are now being accepted for this year’s Employee Awards, including a new award recognizing an employee who has made Algonquin College “a more equitable, diverse, inclusive, and respectful institution.”

The Inclusion & Diversity Champion Award is a result of the work of the Inclusion and Diversity Circle. “We realized we have amazing employees who embody these values and we wanted to highlight and recognize them,” said Wadhah Almonaifi, program support officer at AC Online, an Inclusion and Diversity Circle member and member of the Employee Awards Working Group. “The College has many employees that set an example and strive towards inclusion.”

“This person is intentionally creating a sense of belonging and collectively promoting an environment where people can be their authentic self,” said Almonaifi. “The award demonstrates what this looks like in the College community and inspires people to do more. We want to highlight a person who champions inclusion and diversity.”

This award will be presented annually to an Algonquin College employee in recognition of excellence and action in demonstrating the value of equity and diversity in our College community.
