Name change: TRI is now Indigenous Initiatives

Truth, Reconciliation and Indigenization (TRI) is now Indigenous Initiatives.

While the name is changing, the commitment behind the work remains the same. Algonquin College had already begun its reconciliation journey before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released its Calls to Action in 2015.

Over the past decade, the College has continued to build on that foundation by advancing Indigenous Knowledge, truth, reconciliation and meaningful relationships across the institution.

The name Truth, Reconciliation and Indigenization reflected the important work that began in response to the Calls to Action. Indigenous Initiatives recognizes that this work is ongoing and forward-looking. As we continue to learn, grow and strengthen our commitments, the new name better reflects the breadth of the work underway today and into the future.

As website updates are completed, community members are encouraged to use Indigenous Initiatives when searching for information and resources, including on the Algonquin College website.

Website redirects and naming updates will help ensure existing links and searches continue to connect users with the information they need.
