The one-year User Experience Design Ontario College Graduate Certificate prepares you for a career in interactive product design. As a professional in this field, you examine the intersection of psychology, human-computer interaction (HCI), emerging technology and business objectives to design data-driven products for complex socio-technical systems.

Working directly with industry partners, you leverage machine learning and large data models to design immersive, extended reality (XR) user-interfaces (UI). Courses

Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely online, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with virtual learning activities. Upon registration, each full-time student is provided an Algonquin email account which is used to communicate important information about program or course events.

Learning Outcomes

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Collaborate with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams to lead and complete human-computer interaction (HCI) and user experience (UX) design projects.
  2. Conduct research and analyze data to inform design and technology strategies.
  3. Solicit and incorporate input from users and relevant parties to inform UX project requirements, objectives, and design operations.
  4. Communicate user experience and interface design strategies and outcomes to elicit support from team members and other interested parties.
  5. Conduct iterative prototyping and usability testing analysis to develop and refine design solutions that align with project goals.
  6. Design user-centred technology-based products to support organizational goals and enhance user experience.
  7. Incorporate accessibility and inclusivity in product design to comply with legal requirements and ethical standards.
  8. Create hierarchy and structure for complex information and systems to support organizational goals and enhance user experience.
  9. Use strategies for career and professional development to support work performance and maintain currency with industry.
  10. Leverage the use of current and emerging technology in UX while managing cybersecurity and privacy risks to protect user and organizational data and systems.
  11. Identify and apply discipline-specific practices that contribute to the local and global community through social responsibility, economic commitment and environmental stewardship.

Admissions Requirements

Program Eligibility

  • Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, Degree or equivalent.
  • Applicants with partial post-secondary education (minimum two years in good academic standing) and relevant work experience may be considered for admission.
  • Applicants without the required diploma or degree will be assessed individually and will be required to complete an Eligibility Package.
  • Eligibility Package submission details can be found on the Algonquin College Additional Admission Requirements website: www.algonquincollege.com/admissionspackages.
  • Applicants with international transcripts must provide proof of the subject-specific requirements noted above and may be required to provide proof of language proficiency. Domestic applicants with international transcripts must be evaluated through the International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS) or World Education Services (WES).
  • IELTS-International English Language Testing Service (Academic) Overall band of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each band; OR TOEFL-Internet-based (iBT)-overall 88, with a minimum of 22 in each component: Reading 22; Listening 22; Speaking 22; Writing 22; OR Duolingo English Test (DET) Overall 120, minimum of 120 in Literacy and no score below 105.
