On August 25th, 2014, Mercury Filmworks’ own Graham MacDonald, an Algonquin Animation grad, was named a winner at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Check out the full story here.
Congratulations to Animation grads Trent Correy and Scott Armstrong for their work on Disney’s movie “Frozen” that recently won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature film. The movie has been a big favourite this award season, picking up wins at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Producers’ Guild Awards, and the Critics’ Choice Awards.
The 3-D animated film about a magically icy princess and her sister is loosely based on the 19th century Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, “The Snow Queen”. It also won the Oscar best original song for “Let It Go,” Disney’s single biggest song in the last decade.
Correy and Armstrong were both selected to participate in an apprenticeship with Disney in October 2012. They believe that the personal mentoring and training program was a wonderful way to ease into studio work.
Since their apprenticeship, they have been involved in movie animation, with their latest work being the recent award winning best animated feature film.
