Don Lewis , Chair

First Name: Don
Last Name: Lewis
Title: Chair

Don Lewis, a 1985 graduate of Algonquin College’s Forestry Technician program, has spent his career protecting Ontario’s forests and wildlife. In fact, two days after graduating he was working in northern Ontario as a forest firefighter for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Eighteen years later, he moved to the Geraldton area north of Lake Superior, where, as a Research Management Technician, he conducted aerial surveys of moose and caribou, stocked fish, and monitored forest industry compliance in the Ogoki Forest, one of the most active harvest areas in northern Ontario. For the past 12 years, Lewis has worked in the Ottawa Valley as a Fish and Wildlife Technical Specialist. “Having that Forestry Technician diploma opened a career path of tremendous experiences and opportunities that I would not trade for the world,” he says, adding that he’d like to see current Forestry Technician students continue to find satisfaction in their careers. He regards his PAC work as serving that end. “It is important for Algonquin College to continue to produce the quality graduates it has been supplying for years,” Lewis says. “The Program Advisory Committee helps the program stay current and meet the needs of an ever-changing workforce.”
