In a career that has spanned more than two decades, Jim Elkins has developed a wide-ranging expertise in safety and environmental management and assessment. From ergonomic assessments to spill responses and safety training development, he is familiar with the intricacies of health, safety, and environment management. As Director of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment operations with Stantec across Canada, he has developed his skills over a career that has found him working in various fields, including the auto industry and consulting engineering environments. Jim was introduced to Algonquin College when he volunteered to talk about safety to a class of students. He subsequently joined the PAC. “Each person on the PAC brings a different perspective as a result of their current and previous work and life experiences,” he says. “This variety makes the PAC a dynamic and useful tool for the College to tap into to better understand how to develop and shape the program to match current and projected needs.” When Jim is not helping project managers, leaders, and clients to ensure the safe delivery of their work, he volunteers with a community youth baseball team and local youth curling.
