Kalum Figura has thrived in the radio industry since graduating with honours in 1999 from Algonquin College with a Diploma in Broadcasting-Radio. Today, he is a Market Sales Manager at Rogers Media, responsible for advertising sales for Ottawa-area radio stations 106.1 CHEZ, KiSS 105.3, COUNTRY 101.1, JACK 92.3 and 1310 NEWS as well various digital products. Prior to this, Figura was an account manager and sales supervisor with the group. Before graduating from Algonquin, Figura held management positions at the College’s radio station CKDJ. Subsequently, he became an on-air personality at Ottawa’s Classic Rock station, CHEZ 106; an anchor and reporter for CHUM Radio in Ottawa; and, eventually, a national anchor, host, and reporter with CHUM’s The Team-Canada’s Sports Radio Network based in Toronto. Figura believes his student years were good preparation for his career. “I loved my time at Algonquin College,” he says. “I always wanted to contribute to the Radio program and jumped at the opportunity to join the Advisory Board. Together, we’re able to help the program and its students stay up to date with a rapidly evolving industry. And students can make connections with people in the industry, which serves them well for employment following graduation.”
