Plan your Pathway

Planning your education can be overwhelming; there are a variety of paths available to you to help you reach your goals. While there is no “wrong” way to plan a pathway there are ways to plan a smart one. The graphic below outlines some the the many ways you can reach your goals. Don’t think of these options as the only way; this is your path and these are your goals.

 

Not sure where to start? Here are some tips and strategies to help you plan your pathway:

  1. Talk with guidance counselors, student success specialists, and/or your program coordinator about your career goals. They can help you identify the academic programs and credentials that best suit your needs.
  2. Review college and/or university websites to determine program admission requirements, application deadlines, and other important information.
  3. Visit ONTransfer to learn more about college/university transfer opportunities.
  4. Maintain a strong GPA, many agreements require a minimum GPA (typically 3.0) for admission.
  5. General Education credits (such as Ethics) can sometimes be applied to programs in different fields be sure to do well in those courses.
  6. Evaluate your financial situation. If funding is an issue, contact the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to see if you qualify for a loan. Scholarships and/or bursaries may be available through Algonquin and other institutions.
