Job Description

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Materials Technician/Technologist to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a fulltime Materials Technician/Technologist in our Petawawa office.

The successful candidate will have the following:

Educational & Experience Requirements:

Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field

Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards
OACETT is an asset

Main Duties:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete;
Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens;
Dynamic Pile Analysis (PDA); and more.
Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations.
Prepare detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers.
Maintain effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve any materials-related issues.
Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
Capability to walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods across occasionally challenging terrain, as well as the ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the field, promoting a safe working environment.
Adhere to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
Adhering to all company policies.
Other duties as required.

Position:

Student/Casual with end date (possibility of extension)
37.5 hours/week (varies with client workload)
