Job Description
The Ottawa Valley Historical Society is looking to hire a motivated individual for the position of Education Program Leader/Tour Guide at the Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre. This position runs from May 25, 2026 to August 28, 2026. The Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre uses its collection of artifacts to connect the history of Pembroke and surrounding areas with contemporary life, telling compelling stories through exhibitions and programming for all ages.
Key responsibilities include:
– Leading informed tours of the museum and pioneer village for the public.
– Planning and leading the museum’s summer Kids Days program.
– Assisting with the planning and presentation of other programs and events.
– Managing the museum’s social media pages (e.g., Facebook, Instagram).
– Providing excellent customer service to visitors.
– Maintaining and cleaning the museum’s gardens, grounds, and exhibits.
– Acting as a positive ambassador for the museum and historical society.
– Assisting with the planning of virtual presentations and lending out Museum in a Box education kits as needed.
– Performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
– Ideal for a university or college student studying a liberal arts field (e.g., history, education, museum studies, social sciences, geography, etc.).
– Ability to multi-task and manage a variety of responsibilities.
– Advanced experience using Microsoft Office and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram).
– Strong public speaking and organizational skills.
– Interest in history and heritage, particularly within the community.
– Valid driver’s license and access to a car.
– Must have been a full-time student in the spring and be returning to full-time studies in the fall.
– Bilingualism is an asset.
