Summer Student Opportunity – St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Renfrew
Creating a peaceful, welcoming space for generations to come, St. Francis Xavier Cemetery is seeking a motivated and responsible Summer Student to join our team for the upcoming season. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in meaningful work, and wants to contribute to the care of one of Renfrew’s most historic and cherished community spaces.
Position Overview
The Summer Student will support the ongoing maintenance, beautification, and stewardship of the cemetery grounds. Working alongside our cemetery caretaker, the student will help ensure the cemetery remains a place of dignity, reflection, and comfort for all who visit.
Key Responsibilities:
• Groundskeeping: mowing, trimming, raking, and general lawn care
• Assisting with landscaping projects, including planting and maintaining shrubs and flowerbeds
• Cleaning and maintaining walkways, benches, and gathering areas
• Supporting upkeep around the columbarium and memorial spaces
• Light maintenance tasks as needed
• Providing respectful assistance to visitors when appropriate
Qualifications:
• Must be a returning student in the fall
• Enjoys outdoor, physical work
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Respectful, mature, and comfortable working in a sensitive environment
• Experience with lawn or garden equipment is an asset but not required
Position Details:
• Season: Approximately July–August
• Hours: 35 hours per week (weather dependent)
• Wage: $17.60/hour
• Location: St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Renfrew
