Programs and Services
In-Person Services
Visit the library in person to:
- Borrow, renew, request, and return items.
- Receive research support or assistance finding / accessing a resource.
- Utilize quiet and silent study spaces.
- Access desktop and laptop computers, peripherals (headphones, mice, chargers, calculators, etc.) and assistive technologies.
- Access colour printing, scanning, and photocopying.
Online Services
Online services and resources include:
- Our library catalogue, Page 1+ – Provides 24/7 access to thousands of print and electronic resources including books, eBooks, research articles, streaming video, newspapers, and more.
- Our Databases A-Z – Provides free institutional access to hundreds of research databases.
- The Learning Portal – 24/7 virtual access to a wide variety of open learning resources, tools, and learning supports, available in both English and French.
- More than 100 curated Subject Guides to help you find recommended resources for your subject area.
- Workshops to support learning and teaching.
- Research support, including 1:1 appointments and our AskON Library Chat service.
Indigenous Resources and Services
The Library supports our Indigenous students and staff, and those who would like to learn more in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, in the following ways:
- Loaning supplies and sacred medicines for smudging – See Library staff at the main desk to borrow these supplies for use on-campus in the Prayer / Reflection room (428) or in the Counselling Services office (room 138).
- Housing the campus’ Grandfather Drum, Mishomis Ashage Dwegan, used in ceremonies on campus.
- Housing certain pieces of Indigenous artwork, and gifts given to the Pembroke Campus.
- Facilitating access to the Maamwi Hub, a collection of resources compiled by The Learning Portal and inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
- Facilitating access to the Maamwi Treaties of Ontario Database, an online tool to look up which treaty your campus is located on.
- Maintaining a current and relevant collection of print and online resources in support of Algonquin College’s vision for Truth and Reconciliation.

- Maintaining the Indigenous Studies and Inclusion and Diversity subject guides, collections of recommended print, online, and digital resources from the Library’s collection.
AC Library recognizes the controlled vocabulary of library classification systems is shaped within a settler-colonial, patriarchal, hetero-normative, ableist framework, and racist, Eurocentric ideology. AC Library is committed to acknowledging, amending, and/or updating unacceptable language with contemporary descriptions.
Pembroke Waterfront Campus Book Club
The Pembroke Waterfront Campus Book Club is a safe and welcoming group that meets once a month to discuss books from a wide variety of genres including contemporary fiction, historical fiction, Young Adult literature, dystopian fiction, science fiction, non-fiction, social commentary, memoir, and humour.

Pembroke Public Library College Student Membership
Current Algonquin College students studying at the Pembroke Campus can bring their AC student card and proof of address to the Pembroke Public Library to sign up for a student membership and check out materials from that library’s circulating collection,
at no cost, including:
- Books
- Magazines
- Music CDs
- DVDs
- Museum passes
- Park passes
- Ukeleles
- Nature backpack kits
- And more!
Note: To take advantage of this membership, your Algonquin College account must be current and in good standing.

Library Spaces
Library Main Level (Room 145)
The main, staffed level of the library offers the following:
- The library’s Main Circulation & Reference Desk
- Student desktop computer workstations and printer
- Quiet study seating along the window wall
- A Light Therapy lamp
- Individual silent study carrels
- Access to the Library’s print and AV collection, including Academic Upgrading textbooks and modules.
Student Support Lab (Room 145b)
Meet with a Coach by appointment for free, one-on-one or small group assistance in various subject areas. Appointments may be booked here up to two weeks in advance
Assistive Technology Meeting Room (Room 145c)
This group study room is priority use for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL), although any student may book it – inquire at the Library’s Main Desk.
- Can accommodate from 1 – 6 people.
- Book up to a maximum of 2 hours per day.
- Same-day bookings only (any advance bookings are facilitated solely by CAL).
- All bookings are tentative and made on a first-come-first-served basis.
The room is equipped with an accessible computer workstation, scanner, and accessibility software.
Library Second Floor
The second floor of the Library is available whenever the building is open and may be accessed using either the main stairwell or the elevators. Note that there is no access to the library’s second floor from inside the main library space.
The library’s second floor offers the following:
- Individual quiet study carrels.
- Three group study rooms (Rooms 203, 204, and 205).
Group study rooms can accommodate up to 4 people (minimum 2 people per room) up to a maximum of 2 hours per day across all rooms. Booking more than one room in the same day is not permitted.
Study rooms may be booked up to one day in advance using the sign-up sheets on the room doors.

Note: The second floor of the Library offers the same hours of access as the building hours.

Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday to Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Services are closed on Statutory Holidays.
