AC Faculty Opportunity: Help guide ethical, impactful research at Algonquin College by joining the Research Ethics Board.
Algonquin College is seeking two full-time faculty members to join its Research Ethics Board (REB). The REB plays a critical role in supporting ethical, responsible, and high-quality research involving human participants across the College community.
As research activity, scholarly engagement, and industry and community partnerships continue to grow across the College, the REB helps ensure that research is conducted in accordance with the highest ethical standards while safeguarding the dignity, rights, and welfare of research participants.
The REB reviews research involving human participants in alignment with the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans – TCPS 2 (2022) and supports ethical review processes related to faculty, student, and applied research activities across the College.
This opportunity is well-suited for faculty members with an interest in research, ethics, innovation, student engagement, or institutional service who are looking to contribute to Algonquin College’s growing research ecosystem and interdisciplinary research community.
Faculty REB Members Will:
- Participate in monthly virtual REB meetings held on the third Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Contribute to delegated reviews of research ethics applications
- Support ethical decision-making and responsible research practices across a broad range of disciplines and research activities
- Contribute to the integrity, credibility, and impact of research conducted at Algonquin College
- Serve a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal
Qualifications and Requirements
- Interest in research ethics, responsible innovation, scholarly activity, or applied research
- Experience conducting, supervising, or supporting research is considered a strong asset
- Approval from the faculty member’s Chair, including allocation of three hours of SWF per week for REB responsibilities
- Responsibilities average approximately three hours per week, including participation in monthly meetings and delegated reviews
- Completion of the TCPS 2 CORE Tutorial upon appointment (free online training provided through the Panel on Research Ethics)
- Prior REB experience is welcome but not required. New members will receive onboarding support and mentorship from experienced REB members

- Expand professional knowledge and experience in research ethics, governance, and research design
- Engage with interdisciplinary research initiatives and emerging areas of research across the College
- Build connections with faculty, researchers, administrators, and external research partners across multiple disciplines
- Contribute to institutional research quality, accountability, and responsible innovation
- Develop experience in research governance, ethics review, and applied research processes within a growing post-secondary research environment
