Student Experience

Combine theory with practical experience

Students in the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Algonquin College gain valuable hands-on experience during classes and labs, many of which are held in the College’s fitness facility. They learn to administer fitness assessment protocols, conduct real group fitness classes, and prescribe appropriate exercise programs to real clients as part of the Personal Training course. Students also learn to create health and wellness promotion programs by participating in health fairs in various settings, from daycare centres to corporate fitness centres to seniors residences.

Preparing for your career

A 7-week field placement enables students to apply the skills and knowledge gained in the program and further their practical skills in real work situations. Upon completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to obtain certifications as a personal trainer and/or group fitness instructor.
