Learn the basics of veterinary care

The Veterinary Assistant program at Algonquin College you will provide you with a well-rounded foundation of knowledge in clinical nursing and surgical care, grooming, nutrition, behavior, and client service practices that are essential for employment in the animal care business.

Gain practical skills

In the Veterinary Assistant program you obtain experience with anesthetic monitoring equipment, surgical instruments and preparation, radiography, laboratory samples and diagnostic tests. Basic grooming techniques and veterinary practice software are also taught. You will provide care to our in house population of companion animals. A field placement completes your program of study.
