Community Project Highlights (October)

In October, our #ACVolunteers made the most of the Fall Mid-Term Break by volunteering at our sold-out Indigenous-focused Community Projects. Earlier in October, the AC Hub also hosted the first session of the Student Leadership Program (SLP) 3.0 workshop.

Check out the highlights below!

Recreation and Parks Association of Nunavut

In collaboration with the Recreation and Parks Association of Nunavut (RPAN), which helps to support Indigenous athletes, coaches, and the quality and level of recreation services in local communities, volunteers prepared leadership kits for the upcoming Recreation and Sport Leader Conference in Iqaluit.

Indigenous Beading

Beading has a very long artistic and cultural history among the Indigenous people in Canada. Under the guidance of an Indigenous community member, our volunteers learned the importance of beading in Indigenous cultures and created original pieces of Indigenous art. After the pieces were completed, they were donated to the Minwaashin Lodge.

Minwaashin Lodge

Volunteers assisted with the Minwaashin Lodge Culture Program which focuses on Indigenous cultural activities and traditional cooking. Activities includedactivities included traditional drumming and volunteering in the local food and clothing bank.

SLP 3.0 – Making Connections

The first SLP 3.0 workshop titled Making Connections was offered to our students. Participants learned about professional development opportunities on campus, how to build a professional network, employment coaching, and staying connected as a future Alumni.
