Student Experience

What to Expect

Algonquin College is proud to provide a diverse and dynamic student experience. Check out the highlights below to get a sense of what to expect as a student in the Business – Marketing program.

Success Stories and Testimonials

“I was a bit nervous when I started the Business – Marketing program and had no idea what to expect. I don’t want to sound cliché, however it turned out to be one of the best things I’ve ever done. I thoroughly loved to learn and looked forward to attending every single class and never missed one.

My professors were once the marketing industry’s top performers and chose to become educators to guide and train the leaders of tomorrow. The professors were thoroughly committed to their students, and it was evident that they had a passion for teaching.

Today, I’m working in the high-tech industry and what I learned in the Business Marketing program is spot on to industry practices. I have endless contacts with peers, professors and industry leaders and have built relationships that will last a lifetime.”
– Melissa Nihmey, Graduate

“Studying at Algonquin College made a huge impact in my life, it was an amazing adventure where I had the fortune to meet incredible and very talented people, and I had the privilege to make great friends in a great environment. Plenty of adventures and moments that created a lot of outstanding professional and personal learnings. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to Algonquin College staff, a group of highly qualified professionals with excellent interpersonal skills but above all with a huge heart.
– Salvador Ibarra, Graduate

Work-Integrated Learning

Watch: A student, a professor and a client tell CTV Morning Live about the excellent hands-on opportunities the program offers.

“The faculty in this program work together to thread courses so (the students) get to see how momentum is created from one piece of marketing to another, and it really comes together in the final project.”
– Professor Erin Sparks

Students complete hands-on assignments that involve case studies, simulation platforms, research assessments and role-playing. You also have the opportunity to work with industry clients in the program, including developing a full marketing plan for a local client.

Students also have the option to gain real-world experience through a paid co-operative education (co-op) work term. Please note that places in the co-op work term are subject to availability and academic eligibility, and that admission to the co-op program does not guarantee a co-op placement.

Competitions

Students have the option to participate in the Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC). This annual competition gives students valuable real-world experience and a chance to stand out in today’s competitive workforce. Read more about the opportunity here.
