Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:

  • Understanding of the sales cycle
  • Basic accounting/bookkeeping, using Quickbooks
  • Ministry of Labour expectations from employees and supervisors
  • Farm safety and Biosecurity regulations
  • Basics of equipment fleet management
  • Basic agronomy and crop production
  • Animal health and nutrition fundamentals

Requirements to remain eligible for co-op:

This program offers one optional co-op work term. Qualified students with a minimum GPA of 2.7 can apply for a paid co-op employment to gain valuable work experience and build their network within the industry. Contact your Program Coordinator for specific qualification requirements.

Additional Info:

If you are an international student enrolled in the co-op program, you are required to have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work-term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number in order to work in Canada. You are encouraged to start the application process in your preparation term as government processing time can take up to 4 months or more. Please refer to the Algonquin College International Education Centre for more information.
