Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:

  • Cisco CCNA-Security content - how to secure networks using Cisco Routers/Switches. 
  • Securing networks using other IDS/IPS, UTM and other security appliances. 
  • Penetration Testing Fundamentals: basic understanding of the tools and methods needed to conduct a proper security assessment of an organization. 
  • Digital Forensics Fundamentals: basic understanding of the tools and methods needed to conduct a proper forensic investigation/eDiscovery of a security event/breach.
  • Applied Cryptography: basic understanding of the tools, methods and applications of cryptographic capabilities to security mechanisms & controls.
  • Cyber Incident Response Fundamentals: basic understanding of the methods needed to create and use an appropriate response plan when a cyber breach is detected.
  • Security Law & Compliance: good appreciation of laws, regulations and standards are to be consulted/used in various regions and environments for achieving a strong security posture.
  • Information Security Risk Management: good appreciation of risk management and threat-risk assessments for identifying what must be protected.
  • Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery: good appreciation of how to plan for the worst-case scenario(s) and how to proceed to recover.
