Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:
- Complete a survey traverse.
- Operate a GPS receiver to determine the vertical and horizontal coordinates of points.
- Create, edit, view and analyze 3D models using Revit.
- Import/export 3D information to AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit
- Perform a stability analysis of an earthen slope and express the results in the form of an associated factor of safety.
- Establish a framework for planning and executing a project.
- Review the history of steel manufacturing and its environmental impact. Apply the mechanical properties of structural steel as they relate to the design of basic structural elements.
- Evaluate the adequacy of a deep foundation to support load based on theory and field test data for structures supported on piles and caissons.
- Calculate the road super elevation to incorporate in the design of a road and provide safe turning while driving.
- Explain the estimation of storm runoff, storm sewer layout and design and the importance of floodplains.

Requirements to remain eligible for co-op:
This program offers one optional co-op work term. Qualified students with a minimum GPA of 2.7 can apply for a paid co-op employment to gain valuable work experience and build their network within the industry. Contact your Program Coordinator for specific qualification requirements.

If you are an international student enrolled in the co-op program, you are required to have a valid co-op work permit before starting your work-term. You must apply for and receive a Social Insurance Number in order to work in Canada. You are encouraged to start the application process in your preparation term as government processing time can take up to 4 months or more. Please refer to the Algonquin College International Education Centre for more information.
