Skills students have at the start of co-op work term:
- Locate, select, organize and document information using appropriate technology and information systems.
- Work with, and to undertake, computations in both the Imperial and Metric systems of measure and to perform unit conversions within and between the two systems.
- Understand the historical influence of land settlement patterns on the shape of our current environment.
- Examine and interpret legislative requirements outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act as they relate to construction projects.
- Operate a survey level for a variety of practical survey exercises.
- Draw and edit simple drawings.
- Demonstrate and apply the concept of equilibrium to the evaluation of support forces and internal actions in simple, determinate systems.
- Read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications and contract documents.
- Evaluate soil parameters relevant to geotechnical analysis based on industry standard (CSA) testing methodologies.
