Referring Students to Counselling Services

Counselling Services provides brief, supportive counselling for students enrolled in at least one course of 24 or more instruction hours at Algonquin.

If you know a student who is seeking support for mental health, career, or academic concerns, please contact the Welcome Centre at 613.727.4723 ext. 7200, or refer the student to the links below:

Our counsellors also provide consultation services to the entire Algonquin College community. We can answer your questions or discuss any student concerns or referral options. Ask for a consultation if you are:

  • Concerned about a student but uncertain if you should intervene.
  • Uncertain of how to respond to a student’s call for help.
  • Looking for information about mental health or wellness.
  • Want more information about our services.

Note: Counselling is a confidential process. Although we can accept information from Algonquin employees interested in helping a student get the support they need, counsellors cannot disclose whether a student has been attending counselling sessions, or any information disclosed by the student during sessions. Confidentiality is a key element in counselling’s efficacy.
