Canerector Foundation Scholarship in the Skilled Trades Application
The Canerector Foundation seeks to increase the recruitment, retention and employability of post-secondary students who are beginning their careers in the skilled trades. Algonquin College is proud to receive support from the Canerector Foundation to recognize students in eligible skilled trade programs across all Algonquin College campuses via the Canerector Foundation Scholarship in the Skilled Trades.
Post-Secondary Recipients (Canerector Foundation Scholars)
Canerector Foundation Scholars who participate in at least one mentorship event/activity during a term and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average each term, will receive $2000 per term applied towards their student account. Specifically, this means that a student following the regular progression of a program can receive the maximum amount of funding as follows:
- Students in a two-semester program could receive up to $4000 total
- Students in a three-semester program could receive up to $6000 total
- Students in a four-semester program could receive up to $8000 total
Along with financial support, the program provides wrap-around support facilitated by a program staff lead, who helps students navigate their specific situation and achieve their program objectives. This extra support increases the recruitment, retention, and employability of students.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person/ Refugee.
- Applicants must be entering the first year of an eligible skilled trade program of study.
- Applicants must be registered full-time.
- Applicants must commit to participating in the mentorship program.
- Applicants must maintain a minimum of 3.0 grade point average.
- Applications will be accepted for students who will be enrolled in one of the following programs during the 2026 Fall term:
- Aircraft Maintenance Technician
- Building Construction Technician
- Cabinetmaking and Furniture Technician
- Carpentry and Renovation Techniques (Pembroke)
- Electrical Techniques
- Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician
- Heritage Carpentry and Joinery
- Manufacturing Engineering Technician
- Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing
- Motive Power Technician
- Motive Power Technician – Diesel Equipment and Truck
- Welding and Fabrication Techniques
Instructions:
- Applicants must add their Social Insurance Number via their ACSIS account in order to be awarded funding.
- Applicants will be required to upload a current resume, listing work and/or volunteer experience, as well as any extra-curricular activities in the community or school.
- Note: short-listed applicants may be invited to an interview held by the selection committee.
The Fall 2026 application will be opening in June 2026.
