Please note that the below School of Advanced Technology awards and scholarships are not open to self-nomination with the exception of the Canadian Federation of University Women – Nepean Scholarship, and Scotiabank Women in Tech Award.

Scholarships

Most scholarships have no application process. The selection is completed by Financial Aid and Student Awards in recognition of academic excellence.

Awards

Some awards have an application process. For those with an application, details on the application and submission deadline can be found in the Award description. The selection is completed by the Academic Departments in recognition of academic excellence and extracurricular activities, such as volunteerism and leadership.

Al Lee Award

Awarded to apprentice students enrolled in the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program who have a minimum B average and demonstrates leadership qualities, teamwork and a strong work ethic.

Allan Ryan Scholarship

Awarded to graduating students in the Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician-Robotics program with a high GPA.

Barry Gilbert Memorial Award

The Barry Gilbert Memorial Award is given to a student in good standing in their final (3rd) semester of the power motive technician program.

This award has been established by the family of Barry Gilbert to celebrate his memory. Barry spent many years of his working life in the automotive service industry in Ottawa. He demonstrated his love of this industry by sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with co-workers new to the trade. The recipient of the award will demonstrate similar teamwork, leadership skills, and work ethic that Barry exemplified in his life.

To be considered for the Award, students who qualify must submit the following:
* A one-page essay on how they will use the skills they have developed in the program and how they have demonstrated teamwork, a strong work ethic, and leadership.

The application is open from May 1, 2023 to June 15, 2023 at 11:59pm.

Bruce Crockett Memorial Award

Awarded to graduating students from the School of Advanced Technology and Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence who have a high standing in all courses and an emphasis on mathematics.

Cameron Scrim Memorial Award

Awarded to apprentice students enrolled in the Truck and Coach Technician (Apprenticeship) program during Level 03 who have demonstrated a determined nature and have overcome challenges to succeed.

Canadian Federation of University Women – Nepean Scholarship

Awarded to a female student enrolled in any Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program with a high GPA.

Canadian Public Works Association Ontario Chapter Scholarship

Awarded to students every two years enrolled in one of the following programs: Mechanical Engineering Technology, Water and Wastewater Technician, or Environmental Management and Assessment with a high GPA.

Canerector Foundation Scholarship in the Skilled Trades

Awarded to full-time students who have demonstrated passion and desire to build a successful career in the skilled trades. Canerector Foundation Scholars commit to mentoring current and prospective skilled trades students at Algonquin College; participate in co-curricular events; and, maintain a minimum of 3.0 grade point average (equivalent to the letter grade B).

Condair Scholarship

Awarded to students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program during Level 04 (Thermodynamics) with a high GPA.

Curt Moser Math Award

Awarded to graduating students from the Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Science program and to students from the Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology program who have excelled in math.

Diversifying the Faces of the Trades Award

This award will provide financial support to an equity-deserving individual entering one of the participating trade programs at Algonquin College. If you identify as being marginalized on the basis of one or more of these protected grounds (Women, 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous and/or Visible Minority), we invite you to apply for this financial award.

Dr. G.A. Chambers and J.R. Wighton Award

Awarded to first year and/or mature students studying science, technology, the trades, engineering or mathematics who demonstrates diligence in course work.

Enbridge Scholarship

The Enbridge Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Scholarship is to be awarded to (2) two students enrolled in any certificate, diploma and or degree programs available through the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence and the School of Advanced Technology.

EOIT – V. J. Byers Award

Awarded to 2nd year students enrolled in the Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician program who display a commitment to the program, strong potential in electronics and interest in student life.

Ernest Henderson Mathematics Scholarship

Awarded to students enrolled in any full-time program in the School of Advanced Technology who have excelled in math.

G.E. Steam Canada Inc. Power Award

Awarded to students enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program who have demonstrated high academic achievement, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

PureSpirit IT Solutions Inc. Scholarship

Awarded to graduating indigenous students from one of the following programs: Computer Systems Technician or Computer Systems Technology-Security with a high GPA.

School of Advanced Technology Award

Awarded to graduating students who have demonstrated academic excellence in theory and technical achievement, coupled with creativity and ingenuity.

Stantec Consulting Awards

Awarded to (3) students, one from each of the following programs: Level 04 of Civil Engineering Technology program (focused on municipal/environmental engineering systems), Electrical Engineering Technology program (focused on building systems design), Level 04 of Mechanical Engineering Technology program (focused on building systems design). Recipients should have a minimum ‘B’ average (3.0 GPA), and demonstrate strong leadership, community involvement and organizational skills.

Technology Studies Scholarship of Excellence

Awarded to Level 03 students enrolled in the Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Science program with a high GPA.

The John Tattersall Bursary for Women in STEM:

To celebrate John Tattersall and his impact on Algonquin College, the John Tattersall Bursary was created in his honour, to help champion women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). After a six-year career with the College, during two stints, the Executive Director of Facilities Management retired in August 2021.

John joined Algonquin College in 2011 after a successful 36-year military career where he rose to the rank of Colonel, including command tours at home and abroad. Even if he didn’t attend the College as a student, John considered himself an alumnus since he learned everyday he came to work. In his work overseas, John witnessed how imperative education is to empowering a population as it is a key component to establishing equality in society.

Awarded to female students in any STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program who can demonstrate financial need.

William Bernard Memorial Award

Award is given to a student in their second year of the Aviation Management program with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and who has encountered personal challenges; in spite of these, the recipient continues to persevere and maintain a satisfactory academic standing in their program.
