The ALGONQUIN COLLEGE BURSARIES which are specifically for programs in the School of Health and Community Studies are listed on this page.

Funds for bursaries marked with an asterisk are matched through the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS). To be eligible, you must be a Canadian Citizen and have been a resident of Ontario for at least 12 consecutive months, and must not have attended full-time post-secondary studies in the year prior to submitting your bursary application.

Any Term

Gallop Family Bursary

The Gallop Family Bursary has been established to support student learners enrolled in their final year of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program at the School of Health & Community Studies.

The Pre-Health Sciences Student Travel Bursary

The donor wishes to support students in the Pre-Health Sciences program who face extra expenses due to the cost of traveling to their primary home during school holidays.
The Bursary is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, landed immigrants, and protected persons.

The Bursary is open to students at the Ottawa Campus.
The Bursaries will be awarded in the 2023 Winter term in year one and in the Fall term in years 2 to 4 (2023, 2024, 2025).

Agnes Wee Memorial Bursary

Awarded to students enrolled in the Developmental Services Program who can demonstrate financial need. (Community Studies)

Anita Garbarino Girard Bursary

Awarded to full-time students enrolled in any Allied Health program at the Ottawa Campus who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health)

Beth Perrin Memorial Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program and taking an English course who can demonstrate financial need. (Wellness Research and Innovation)

Bonnie Lindsay Bursary

Awarded to first-year indigenous students enrolled in the Practical Nursing or Respiratory Therapy program at the Ottawa Campus who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health and Nursing Studies)

Brenda Hazel Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy program who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health)

Brittaney Fraser-McCann Bursary

The Brittaney Fraser-McCann Bursary was established in memory of Brittaney Fraser-McCann. Brittaney was a graduate of the two-year Practical Nursing program at the Pembroke Campus. She passed away on December 17th, 2021 after complications during her third endovascular coiling procedure to repair a brain aneurysm. She was 33. To honor Brittaney and her love of nursing and medical aesthetics, this bursary was created to support students as they strive to achieve their own nursing dream. The Bursary is awarded to one student enrolled in either the Practical Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program in their second year, who can demonstrate financial need. The Bursary is open to students enrolled at the Pembroke Campus, with first preference to a single parent.

Canadian Federation of University Women – Nepean Bursary

Awarded to a female student enrolled in the Practical Nursing program and in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program who can demonstrate financial need.

Children’s Village of Ottawa-Carleton Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program who can demonstrate financial need. (Community Studies)

Colin J. Everett Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Biotechnology – Advanced program and the Medical Radiation Technology program who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health)

David and Janet Wallace Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies)

Doris Shoultz Memorial Library Technician Bursary

Awarded to full-time students enrolled in the Library Technician program who can demonstrate financial need. Recipients should be mature students and have dependents. (Community Studies)

Dr. Jim Robblee and Wendy Nicklin Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy program who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health)

Elizabeth and Alissa Meyer Bursary

Awarded to second-year students enrolled in the Social Service Worker, Practical Nursing, or Respiratory Therapy programs who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health, Community Studies, and Nursing Studies)

Five B Family Bursary

Awarded to students in the Personal Support Worker program at all campuses who can demonstrate financial need. Special consideration is given to students who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous or other People of Colour). (Nursing Studies)

The Hasan Ural Memorial Bursary for PSWs

Awarded to a student in the Personal Support Worker Program, based on financial need. Special consideration will be given to students who self identify an interest in palliative care. The Bursary recipient will be offered an opportunity to apply for a work placement in palliative care at Hospice Care Ottawa.  The bursary is in memory of Hasan Ural, Professor Emeritus, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Ottawa, and in gratitude to the PSWs at the Hospice Care Ottawa for their compassionate palliative care.

The Hasan Ural Memorial Bursary for PSWs – International and Refugee Students

Awarded to a student in the Personal Support Worker Program, based on financial need. The bursary is open to refugees and international students, with preference for a student who self-identifies as a refugee.  Special consideration will be given to students who self-identify an interest in palliative care. The bursary is in memory of Hasan Ural, Professor Emeritus, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Ottawa, and in gratitude to the PSWs at the Hospice Care Ottawa for their compassionate palliative care.  The Bursary recipient will be offered an opportunity to apply for a work placement in palliative care at Hospice Care Ottawa.

Awarded to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies)

Islam’s Health Care Bursary

Awarded to second-year students enrolled in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Practical Nursing, or Medical Radiation Technology program who can demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to Muslim-identified students. The Islam’s Health Care Bursary was created by Dr. Misbah Islam and Dr. Nigar Islam, in memory of and in gratitude to their parents Dr. Syed Ali Akhtar and Mrs. Badr un Nisa, Mr. Syed Akhlaque Hadi and Mrs. Nisar Fatima Hadi. James McNulty Bursary

Awarded to students enrolled in Level 03 of the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to indigenous students, black students or a recent immigrant, having arrived in Canada within the last 5 years. (Nursing Studies)

Johannah Raphael Nursing Bursary

Awarded to mature (minimum 25 years old) students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies)

John Udd Bursary 

Awarded to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies)

Ken and Doris Shoultz Memorial Bursary for the Personal Support Worker Program at the Perley and Rideau Veteran’s Health Centre

Awarded to full-time students enrolled in the Personal Support Worker program and receiving instruction at the Perley and Rideau Veteran’s Health Centre. Students must also be a mature student and able to demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies)

Kiwanian Alex Dayton Seniors Activity Centre Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Recreation and Leisure Studies and Personal Support Worker programs who can demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies and Wellness Research and Innovation)

Nepean Kiwanis Fred Sullivan Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. Special consideration will be given to residents of Nepean. (Nursing Studies)

Phoenix Down Practical Nursing Bursary

Awarded to first-year students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to Filipino-identified students. (Nursing Studies)

Relax Massage Group Bursary

Awarded to students enrolled in the Massage Therapy program who can demonstrate financial need. (Wellness Research and Innovation)

Retired Teachers of Ontario District 27 Bursary

Awarded to students enrolled in Level 01 or Level 03 (if applicable) of the Personal Support Worker, Recreation and Leisure Services, and Social Service Worker program who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health, Community Studies, and Nursing Studies)

Ritika Nandkeolyar Bursary

Awarded to a student enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program with demonstrated financial need.

Semira Saba Kifle Practical Nursing Bursary

The Semira Saba Kifle Practical Nursing Bursary is awarded, based on financial need, to an incoming student who is a health care worker and enrolled in the first semester of the Practical Nursing program. This bursary is in honour of Semira Saba Kifle who, with four children at home, returned to school to upgrade her skills from a PSW to RPN.

Virginia Lofaro Bursary

Awarded to first-year full-time students enrolled in the Library Information and Technician program who can demonstrate financial need. (Community Studies)

West End Nursery School Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Education Intensive program who can demonstrate financial need. (Community Studies)

Yarrow Darby LeRoy – Blaisdell Memorial Bursary

Awarded to students enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program who can demonstrate financial need. (Wellness Research and Innovation)

Abdul Abdulrahman Respiratory Therapy Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy program who can demonstrate financial need. (Allied Health)

Alice Baird Bursary*

Awarded to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who can demonstrate financial need. (Nursing Studies) Preference will be given to students working at Bruyère, Saint-Vincent Hospital or a similar institution. Proof of employment is required. To be considered for the Bursary, students who qualify must submit a short essay of no more than 250-word on their understanding of the importance of palliative care and what personal strengths they bring to the palliative care role.

Awarded to students in the Cardiovascular Technology program completing their clinical placement out of district (greater than 150 km) with demonstrated financial need.
