Volunteer Abroad

Have you ever learned about community engagement by participating in a club? Or wildlife conservation by helping coordinate an Earth Day cleanup?

Service learning is where you learn by experiencing and reflecting on activities that you undertake as part of a community, whether it be helping to create a community garden or teaching seniors how to use technology. Service opportunities at Algonquin College are offered through the AC Hub’s Global Projects program from Guatemala to Kenya.

Brayden in Guatemala“I was privileged enough to have been chosen to travel to Guatemala. This trip exceeded my expectations; not only did I partake in creating an electrical system for a school that will be there for years, I got experience in my field.” – Brayden

When you pursue service learning internationally, you can deepen that experience even further by layering on learning about a different culture. Not only do you connect with global communities, but you also engage in personal development that can be life changing.

Check out the AC Hub global opportunities site, a listing of international service experiences available to students (with potential qualification for funding or co-curricular credit).

Note: you’re not eligible for funding for volunteer work you find on your own. You also don’t need to register your travel unless you’re getting credit or your trip is connected to the college.

If you are earning credit(s) or participating in an Algonquin College organized program, you may also qualify for funding awards – click here to see what’s available and deadline dates.
