Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)

Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) allows students, employees, contractors, and facilitators to securely:

  • Reset a forgotten password
  • Unlock a locked account
  • Change an existing password

The service is available 24/7 and can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.

Important: Students and Employees must have at least one authentication method configured on their account to use Self-Service Password Reset.

What You’ll Need

  • Your Algonquin College email address
  • Access to your authentication method

Steps

    • I forgot my password to reset your password.
    • I know my password, but still can’t sign in to unlock your account. Click Next.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your identity using the Microsoft Authenticator app or another registered authentication method.
  • Enter and confirm your new password.
  • Select Finish to complete the process, then sign in using your updated credentials.

 

Password must be at least 8 characters long.

Must contain three of the following:

  1. Uppercase letters (A-Z)
  2. Lowercase letters (a-z)
  3. Numbers (0-9)
  4. Special characters

Cannot contain portions of your first or last name.

Cannot match any of your previous six passwords.

Resync your College Laptop or Desktop:

This only applies to Windows operating system devices.

Work From Home:

  • If you have not yet signed in to the device since changing your password, please use your old password to log in. The device has not yet received your new password.
  • Connect to the college VPN (Cisco Secure Client)
  • Hit on your keyboard: Ctrl + Alt + Del
  • Select “Lock”
  • Enter your new password
  • If you get the message “reference account locked”, you will need to call ITS.
  • Your device has been resynced

OnSite:

  • If already signed in to the device
  • Hit on your keyboard: Ctrl + Alt + Del
  • Select “Lock”
  • Enter your new password
  • If you get the message “reference account locked”, you will require to call ITS.
  • Your device has been resynced
  • If not already signed in to the device
  • Login with the new password
  • Your device has been resynced

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can use Self-Service Password Reset?

A: All Students and Employees with at least one configured authentication method can use SSPR.

 

Q: Do I need to register before using SSPR?

A: Yes. You must have at least one authentication method configured on your account.

 

Q: Can I reset my password from off-campus?

A: Yes. SSPR can be used anywhere with internet access.

 

Q: Do I need VPN access to reset my password?

A: No. VPN is not required to reset your password.

 

Q: Do I need to wait for password synchronization?

A: No. Password changes take effect immediately and do not require synchronization steps.

 

Q: What if I cannot verify my identity?

A: Contact ITS Client Care if you cannot access your registered authentication methods.

 

Q: I reset my password but Windows still accepts my old password.

A: Reconnect to VPN if applicable, lock your computer using Windows Key + L, and sign in using your new password.
