Timeline

The Master Campus Development Plan and its implementation are probably one of the most complex projects the College has undertaken in the last decade. As for every project, there are a number of timeframes. In synopsis:

1. Internal and external stakeholder engagement

2. Approval processes

3. Construction

All of these timeframes will be impacted by external factors and will have a knock-on effect on each other.

Internal and external stakeholder engagement

During the Summer of 2023, the internal engagement timeframe commenced with the leadership interviews. These interviews were with the senior management within the College across the board, enabling us to seek their ideas as to what would make the College even greater than it is today. Interviews were given with the Indigenous Education Council, as it is important that we expand the College following their stewardship of the land, as the College is located on the traditional, unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin people. Outside stakeholders were consulted, including the City of Pembroke, the City of Ottawa, and the Town of Perth.

During the Summer of 2024, further engagement will be occurring, starting with an Update Session meeting for staff and students on May 13, 2024. It is anticipated that the local neighbouring landowners will also be briefed on the current state of the MCDP. We hope this will also occur in May 2024.

As the plan is nearing finalization and a recommended course of action is put forward, further internal and external stakeholder briefings will occur in Fall 2024.

Approval process

It is the intention that the completed MCDP with its supporting documentation will be submitted to the Board of Governors for their approval in February 2025.

Construction

It is highly probable that the outcome of the MCDP, in addition to planning principles, wayfinding, and all the other key factors, will recommend refurbishments and a new build program. The construction of any new building takes many months; for example, the design of the building may take 18 months, planning permission will take many months, and the construction may take 18-20 months. Therefore, it is highly probable that while approval from the Board of Governors may be granted in early 2025, commissioning and having a building ready for use might not be until 2028.

If the master plan recommends more than one building, then there will be a staggered commencement date; therefore, that building will be ready in 2030.
