Frequently Asked Questions

To whom is this program suitable?
This program is aimed toward high school graduates, who have already experienced instruction in computers, the Internet, basic word processing applications, and possibly a few advanced courses that include one or more of the following: design, video, programming, or animation. Adult applicants who possess a basic knowledge and aptitude of these skills are also encouraged to apply.

What will I learn?
We teach and use more than 20 individual software packages as well as a variety of mark-up and scripting languages. If you do not enjoy typing or do not like the idea of solving problems through programming then the Interactive Media Design program would not be a suitable program for you. No prior programming experience is required before entering the program. While students are able to specialize in different areas, we teach all our students how to program at a basic to intermediate level during their four semesters.

What software, equipment, and technology will I need?
At the very least, one DSLR camera and one portable hard drive. Point-and-shoot cameras are NOT acceptable. Please do not buy a camera before classes begin UNLESS you have spoken to an instructor in the program. Students have the option of buying a computer and software so that they can also do course work from home. We provide excellent, modern computers, labs, specialty video cameras and lenses, sound rooms, green screen rooms, and other professional equipment for them to use or borrow.

How much homework is there in the Interactive Media Design program?
One can assume and average of 15 – 25 hours per week of work outside the classroom, with an increase towards the conclusion of each semester. This is in addition to the approximately 20 hours of classroom time each week.
