Algonquin College, Ottawa Hospital to Host Premier Screening Of #Flashforward Season III

This Thursday, April 20, teams of young filmmakers will descend on Algonquin College for the culmination of the third season of #FlashForward, a 10-week program that sees high-school students team up with college student mentors to collaborate with The Ottawa Hospital.

“This is our third year hosting the program and we are consistently impressed by the quality of work done by the high school students,” says Kevin Holmes, project manager for Algonquin College’s Health and Wellness Research Centre. “The videos are outstanding, and I think that can be attributed to the dedication of the secondary students, but also to the guidance they receive from our amazing college student mentors here at Algonquin.” Continue reading

Premier Wynne announces $2.9m for Algonquin College’s 50th

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne today announced that Algonquin College will receive $2.9 million as part of the province’s $50-million investment in Ontario’s 24 community colleges.

The College plans to use the funds to support the construction of a new Indigenous Commons
and “Collaboratory,” which will complement the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Learning Centre, and Institute for Indigenous Entrepreneurship announced last fall. An expandable, circular, gathering space, the area will be used for lectures, galas, and celebrations, and will provide an area for community members to interact and experience applications of Indigenous knowledge. Algonquin College Named a Top Employer in the National Capital Region for Fourth Consecutive Year

OTTAWA — For the fourth consecutive year, Algonquin College has been named one of the National Capital Region’ Top 25 Employers. The winners were announced today in a special insert in The Ottawa Citizen which recognizes the 2017 National Capital Region’s Top Employers.

“Algonquin College’s success is dependent on our ability to attract and retain exceptional people who have our learners as their primary focus,” said Cathy Frederick, Vice President, Human Resources. “This year marks the first year of our new strategic plan, and in that plan we set a goal of being recognized by the community and our employees as an exceptional place to work. Algonquin College to Receive New Government Funding

OTTAWA — Algonquin College will receive new funding as part of the Ontario government’s plans to invest $50-million into the province’s 24 publicly assisted colleges.

Deb Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, made the announcement on Monday as part of Colleges Week festivities in Toronto. She explained the funding is part of the province’s efforts to mark the 50th anniversary of the college system. Continue reading

OTTAWA — A new Algonquin College-led study examining how victims of violence can find resilience is receiving considerable media attention.

The study, conducted in partnership with the University of Ottawa and the Victim Justice Network, looks at how individuals can navigate the aftermath of violence and find a path to what some have called “post-traumatic growth.” Continue reading
