OTTAWA — A new Algonquin College-led study examining how victims of violence can find resilience is receiving considerable media attention.

The study, conducted in partnership with the University of Ottawa and the Victim Justice Network, looks at how individuals can navigate the aftermath of violence and find a path to what some have called “post-traumatic growth.” Continue reading

Algonquin College Office Administration Students Donate to Dress for Success Ottawa

OTTAWA — Students in Algonquin College’s Office Administration program are teaming up with Dress for Success Ottawa with “Filing for Fashion” to facilitate equal opportunity employment for women across the city.

Students have been collecting donations of gently used business attire in exchange for up to two hours of general office services by student volunteers from the Algonquin College community. On March 31 at 11 a.m. they will take a full bus-load of donations to Dress for Success. Students, employees, and community members are invited to celebrate as the Thunder Bus leaves the College with the donations. Continue reading

Finance Minister Bill Morneau makes Post-Budget Visit to Algonquin College

OTTAWA — The Honourable Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance, made his first post-budget stop at Algonquin College on Thursday, fielding questions from students and getting a first-hand look at innovation in progress.

“I know it’s so important for Colleges and private-sector organizations and research institutes and universities to all work together in creating great opportunities for our country,” said Minister Morneau, who then addressed the students directly. “All of you are at an exciting time in your life. I wish you all the best in your studies and I want you to know that we are going to work to make sure that the opportunities are going to be there for you when you graduate.” Continue reading

Algonquin College and Siemens Canada partner on Mechatronics and Dual-Education programs

  • Algonquin College’s Ottawa campus will host both programs

The next chapter in the multi-faceted partnership between Algonquin College and Siemens Canada was made official today as the organizations announced a new collaboration aimed at addressing the technical skills gap in Canada and accelerating implementation of Industrie 4.0 advanced manufacturing concepts. Algonquin students will soon have access to two new advanced skills programs to further prepare them for the workplace of the future; the Siemens Mechatronics Systems certification and the Dual-Education enhanced co-op program, both to be offered through the Siemens Canada Engineering and Technology Academy (SCETA).

Algonquin College, Nunavut Arctic College formalize agreement

OTTAWA — Today the President of Algonquin College, Cheryl Jensen, and the President of Nunavut Arctic College, Joe Adla Kunuk, formalized a new partnership that will facilitate the sharing of programs and learning resources between the two Colleges.

“We are eager to collaborate with Nunavut Arctic College to provide students, both here in Ontario and also in Nunavut, with new opportunities,” said Jensen. “Algonquin College is committed to academic collaborations that allow Indigenous students, and all students, to reach their full potential, and to gain the skills they need for the future.”

The College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hospital’s research institute to “encourage and facilitate the development of mutually beneficial linkages” in areas such as digital health, clinical trials and biotherapeutics manufacturing.
