OTTAWA, ON (Sept. 10, 2025) – A group of industry partners has come together to officially launch the newly rebranded Women in Tech and Trades (WiTT) program at Algonquin College, previously known as We Saved You a Seat (WSYAS). This relaunch marks a renewed commitment to equity and inclusion in fields with gender disparity in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and the skilled trades.
“Striving toward gender equity is a massive effort that requires meaningful action and collaboration,” said Roslyn Bern, President of the Leacross Foundation, WiTT’s founding partner. “My hope is that every woman can have the opportunity to succeed in whatever career they choose. I’m proud to partner with Algonquin College to transform this hope into reality for more women.”

OTTAWA, ON (Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025) – Algonquin College is proud to announce that Merit Ontario has sponsored the renovation of a learning space in the Ottawa campus to convert it into a state-of-the-art, fully equipped electrical training lab. In recognition of Merit Ontario’s sponsorship, this new lab, located in the B Building, has been named the Merit Ontario Electrical Lab.
This sponsorship is supported through the Merit Ontario for Apprenticeship program, which seeks to boost the skilled trades workforce by helping apprentices complete their training and pursue rewarding careers.

OTTAWA (July 2, 2025) — Applications are now open for Algonquin College’s new Real Estate Salesperson Program, offered as an approved education provider of the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). This program, alongside the Real Estate Broker Program that will launch in fall 2025, will support those looking to embark upon their real estate careers as well as mid-career professionals who are looking to complete their educational requirements. The program’s courses will be delivered online and allow flexible scheduling, providing an ideal learning environment for busy professionals.

OTTAWA (June 25, 2025) — Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) announced today that Algonquin College learner Kathleen Ramsay has received silver in the Leadership Excellence Award for Students category of its 2025 Awards of Excellence.
These awards recognize the outstanding contributions of learners, faculty and staff across Canada’s colleges, highlighting important contributions to our communities, the nation and the planet.
Ramsay, a student in the Algonquin College Public Relations (ACPR) program, was recognized for her exceptional leadership and community engagement. She led the Audrey’s Star fundraising campaign — named in honour of her late daughter — which raised more than $25,000 for the Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice.

OTTAWA (Mon., June 9, 2025) – This week is Innovation Week in Ottawa and Algonquin College is excited to announce a significant expansion of the Welding Shop in the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE). Thanks to a $315,000 donation from the Canerector Foundation, the Welding Shop has integrated modern technologies that will help learners meet rising industry demands for highly skilled graduates.

Ottawa Mission CEO Peter Tilley loves his career, but he’s very clear it’s a career and not a job. He’s had several jobs ranging from his first as
a nighttime bus washer to working in the business industry and the recruitment industry. That former office job led to a brand-new career.
“I was making good money, I had an apartment, a mustang car, and one day I received a phone call from a former client who was the operator at the food bank, and they were looking for a driver,” said Tilley. “Four days later I became a driver for the Ottawa Food Bank and three years later I was the director of operations, then executive director and was there for 14 years before the opportunity presented itself to work with The Ottawa Mission.” He’s been there ever since. Ottawa is home to many museums. For the thousands of tourists and locals who visit each year, this is a chance to learn about science,
animals, art, space and other areas of interest.
For Algonquin College students, these museums expand the classroom learning experience. Veterinary Technician students work with large animals at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum; Aircraft Maintenance Technician students work on airplanes at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum; and Applied Museum Studies students assist with collections at the Canada Science and Technology Museum campus.
