Algonquin College announces 2019 Alumni of Distinction

OTTAWA – Algonquin College celebrates some of its most accomplished alumni at the third annual Alumni of Distinction Awards Gala Thurs. Sept. 26 in the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE) Building’s Minto Hall.

The gala honours the achievements of 10 alumni and one community employer who have made distinctive contributions in their fields of endeavour and their communities.

Algonquin College’s Office of Applied Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship will be holding its applied research showcase: “RE/ACTION” on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

“RE/ACTION” highlights leading-edge applied research done in collaboration with industry, institutional and community partners. Run three times every year, this event provides a glimpse into the future of technology and the current state of innovation. Discover and explore our research teams’ incredible findings and creations ranging from robotics to biology to User Experience Design and anywhere in between. The projects this summer are incredibly diverse, including a Voice-Activated Bionic Arm and Autonomous Robotic Chimney Cleaner.

Algonquin College names Claude Brulé new President and Chief Executive Officer

Claude BruléClaude Brulé will become the ninth President and Chief Executive Officer of Algonquin College.

A 20-year-veteran of the College, Brulé has served as the College’s Senior Vice President, Academic since 2012.

“Algonquin College is an outstanding postsecondary institution, with an enviable reputation not only in the Ottawa Valley region and throughout the province, but also across the nation and internationally as well,” Brulé said at Thursday’s announcement at the College’s Ottawa Campus. “This is something we can never assume or take for granted, and I know that together, we will continue to safeguard and enhance our college’s brand and standing in all of the communities we serve.” Continue reading

Algonquin College and George Brown College form new Research & Innovation partnership

Algonquin College and George Brown College have formed a research alliance to explore new ways to collaborate and redefine the Canadian College research landscape.

By utilizing in-house expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, Canadian colleges help industry partners design, prototype and take new products and services to market, playing a critical role in social and economic development. The unique partnership between Algonquin and George Brown marks an important step forward, where two colleges will explore opportunities to share resources, develop best practices and enhance applied research across the region. Service Restored: Incoming calls to Ottawa Campus main lines

UPDATE (July 12 – 12:55 P.M.): Functionality appears to be restored in regards to incoming calls. We thank everyone for their patience.

(July 12 – 10:25 A.M.) Please be advised that Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus is currently experiencing an issue with receiving phone calls to our main lines (613 727-4732 and 613 727-0002). Callers are experiencing a busy signal or, if the call is picked up, the call is dropped afterwards. Internal extension to extension calling is still functioning as is outbound calls from the college.

Bell has acknowledged that the issue is related to their equipment but have not offered and estimated time to restoration.

Algonquin College Names Dr. Keltie Jones New Dean of Pembroke Waterfront Campus

Dr. Keltie Jones will become the sixth Dean in the 52 year history of Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. The College’s Senior Vice President, Academic, Claude Brulé, has announced Dr. Jones will begin her tenure on August 26 following an extensive cross country search to find a new Dean for the College’s largest regional campus.

“Dr. Jones has an impressive background in post-secondary education and I look forward to working with her and seeing the Pembroke Campus continue to flourish under her guidance and leadership,” says Brulé.

Algonquin College BHTM students place second in global hospitality competition

Algonquin College Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management studentsThree Algonquin College Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management students took home second place in Take Off!, a global hospitality competition held in Paris this week. Their ground-breaking concept for the hotel room of the future — a highly customizable, multi-sensory, AI environment — impressed the judges.

Brielle Pelletier, Yuxiang Jiang, and Tsvetan Stanchulov — also known by their team name “Cultures United” — won the chance to compete against over 500 worldwide competitors with their pitch on how Artificial Intelligence can enhance the experiences of hotel guests. As finalists, they presented their concept to Accor’s top hotel management. Continue reading
