Industry Leaders Rally in Support of Algonquin College’s Team at Skills Ontario Competition 2025

Several industry leaders have joined forces to sponsor Algonquin College’s participation at the upcoming Skills Ontario Competition 2025. This event, held on May 5-6 of this year in Toronto, brings together top learners from across our province for a chance to compete in a variety of categories, such as architecture, welding, metal fabrication, geographic information systems, and many more. While some of these categories only compete in at the provincial level, others give winners a path to national and world competitions.

This year, Magellan Aerospace, Haley is the lead corporate sponsor of the Algonquin College team at the Skills Ontario Competition, helping to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and participation in the competition.

Algonquin College is also delighted and deeply grateful to welcome six additional sponsors: Canaweld, Parkin Architects Limited, PCL Construction, Dymech Engineering, Graebeck Construction Ltd., and RMA+SH Architects. Without the generous support of our sponsors, participation in the Skills Ontario Competition would not be possible.

Algonquin College learners have consistently excelled in past Skills Ontario Competitions. In 2024, for example, out of the 13 categories our team competed in, our learners brought home six medals—including a prestigious first place in Truck and Coach. Their stellar performance reflects the strong alignment of the College’s portfolio of academic programs with real-world industry demands and the high quality of education learners receive here.

“We are tremendously proud of our competing learners,” said Maggie Cusson, Interim Dean, Algonquin College Heritage Institute and Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence. “But whether they reach the podium or not, every learner who competes in the Skills Ontario Competition greatly benefits from the experience. It’s such an enriching opportunity for all involved, and we’re so grateful for the support of our industry partners who make it possible for our learners and faculty to travel to Toronto and participate in this event.”

Corporate sponsorships are vital in enabling Algonquin College learners to access career-building opportunities that would otherwise be beyond their reach.
