Introduction to Trauma-Informed Practice

Adopting a trauma-informed perspective in assessing client presenting issues enhances practitioners' empathy and enables them to select interventions that align with client needs. Students explore of the various forms of trauma and their impact on the brain. Students apply knowledge of the various types of trauma to the unique needs of clients in intervention and treatment approaches. Students further explore concepts for decolonizing the counselling space to support Indigenous clients and the broader community. Through self-reflection activities, case studies, and the practical application of assessments, students strengthen their ability to apply a trauma-informed lens in their work within addiction and mental health services.
