Raising a Family, Running a Household, and Rockin’ a College Education
Do you ever feel like your plate is getting a little full but you know you’re destined for more? Rachel knows exactly what that’s like. Biomedical Engineer, proud mother of two, and AC alumni, Rachel wears many hats in her everyday life.
Ambitious doesn’t even begin to describe this AC grad, “I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and then I went to the UK to pursue my Masters in the same program with a specialization in Medical Imaging. After that, we decided to move to Canada and call it home. This was a big decision for us as a family because I had my son who was around seven months old at the time. Since then I’ve been a proud mom and homemaker.”
Masters degree in hand, Rachel enrolled in the Regulatory Affairs – Sciences program with AC Online to continue her academic journey. The one-year program allows learners to pursue a career in protecting people and the environment and Rachel loved every bit of it. She explains, “The program itself involved a lot of real-world situations. We had a lot of guidance and documents that helped us prepare regulatory submissions for a medical device or a drug. While I was attending my interviews, I was able to give concrete examples of working knowledge in real-time and apply what I learned in school quickly.”
Between work and motherhood, in-person learning was off the table, “Going to campus was not an option because I have two small kids; AC online was a very natural choice for me. Time management is no joke so the freedom and flexibility AC Online provided made all the difference in Rachel’s world, “AC online was and has been a very big part of my life and it’s given me a lot of confidence, too. Especially when I received the letters notifying me that I’d been added to the Dean’s List for both of my terms. I was, and still am, very proud of that accomplishment.”
Rachel’s focus never shifted as she graduated just a year later, “After completing the full-time online program, I was fortunate enough to be employed right after graduation. Now I work as a Clinical Project Analyst for a very reputable company.”
Being able to look back on her journey is a surreal experience, “It’s thrilling to be able to look at my degrees and diplomas and think about how I was raising my family and running a household where I was cooking, doing laundry, buying groceries… all while studying and doing really well. I think it gives me a sense of validation for all the hard work that I put into it. I’m very proud of that.”
Though it wasn’t easy, Rachel knew she had goals she wanted to achieve, never gave up, and her inspiring and relentless nature came out on top.
