Job Description

We are seeking a cataloguer/interlibrary loan librarian/assistant to the CEO, due to retirement. The main duties of this position are to catalogue the library’s materials, manage the interlibrary loan service, and work the circulation desk; assume a supervisory role in the absence of the CEO.

This is a part-time position, 22-24 hours per week; some evenings and Saturdays.

Some responsibilities include:
– Cataloguing new items to the Insignia catalogue
– Preparing books for processing
– Requesting, lending, and tracking interlibrary loan
– Using Canada Post shipping tool
– Assisting patrons with requests, including checking books in and out, and memberships
– Assisting patrons with technical using library equipment and e-resources
– Opening and closing the library
– Acting in a supervisory role in the absence of the CEO/Head Librarian
– Assisting the CEO with business and bookkeeping duties

Qualifications
– Understanding of public library systems
– Knowledge of MARC records, Dewey Decimal System, and classification of materials
– Excellent computer skills, including use of databases, online research, and Microsoft Office Suite
– Familiarity with a cataloguing system such as Insignia would be an asset
– Familiarity with World Share interlibrary loan system would be an asset
– Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
– Library technician diploma, EXCEL, or other would be an asset
– Previous cataloguing and/or library experience, would be an asset

Additional Information:
This position required long periods of sitting at a computer completing administrative work; multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks; working with disruptions; lifting, walking up and down stairs; counting cash; accuracy and attention to detail.

This position has regular shifts, and overtime is not generally required.

Compensation is per the township wage grid, includes vacation pay and optional participation in OMERS.

Wage to be determined based on experience.
