Job Description
Columbus House provides an early childhood learning environment to meet the needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. We recognize that the years of 0-6 are a period of rapid growth and development and are critical for a child’s physical, social and emotional and cognitive development. Our qualified Early Childhood Educator (ECE) staff works closely with the County of Renfrew childcare and early years department and has adopted How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years. Early identification and age-appropriate play-based programming are the focus of care. We operate two full-time sites in Pembroke and Renfrew.
We are recruiting for a Registered Early Childhood Educator. This is a contract position to cover a maternity leave, and could lead to a permanent role.
Responsibilities:
Provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children
Assess the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discuss progress with parents and other staff members.
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
Attend professional development training.
Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
Knowledge of CCEYA (Childcare and Early Years Act) licensing regulations is an asset.
Understanding of How Does Learning Happen and pedagogical documentation (or willingness to learn).
Adhere to the work schedule to ensure consistency and provide adequate notice to the supervisor regarding unexpected absences.
Clean and sanitize childcare spaces focusing on high touch surfaces, mouthed and frequently played with toys and materials, and other items deemed necessary in accordance with health and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the college.
Experience working with children ages 0-6.
Valid CPR – Standard First Aid Level C.
Current vulnerable background check within six months (or willing to obtain).
Up-to-date immunizations.
Strong skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, children and families.
Knowledge of CCEYA (Childcare and Early Years Act) licensing regulations is an asset.
Understanding of How Does Learning Happen and pedagogical documentation (or willingness to learn).
